Threads is a place to drop thoughts the moment you have them, as little index cards. You don’t have to decide where anything goes. Threads reads your cards and shows you how they connect.

This is an early test version. Things may change, and some rough edges are expected. Your feedback is the whole point, so please tell us what confuses or delights you.

Getting started

  1. Go to clewboard.com and choose Create account.
  2. Check your email for a confirmation link, then sign in.
  3. On your phone, put Threads on your home screen so it opens like an app:
    • iPhone: open clewboard.com/capture in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
    • Android: open clewboard.com/capture in Chrome, tap ⋮, then Add to Home screen.
The home-screen icon opens straight to a simple box for jotting things down.

Saving a thought

Type anything (an idea, a quote, something you noticed, a question) and tap Save. That’s it.

There’s nothing to sort or label. For a few seconds the card shows analyzing… while Threads reads it. After that, it starts finding cards related to it.

Long cards are shortened on the board. Hover over one (on a computer) to read it all, or tap it to open it.

Card types

Each card is colored by what kind of thought it is. Threads guesses the type for you, or you can set it yourself by starting your card with a symbol:

Start withTypeColorUse it for
?Question pinkSomething you’re wondering about
!Answer greenA possible answer or explanation
!!!Posit deep greenSomething you take as a given, a foundation
+Evidence blueA fact, observation, or experience
(nothing)Unclassified whiteAnything else, or let Threads decide

For example, ? Why am I so tired after lunch saves a question. The symbol itself is removed.

Evidence turns yellow when it counts against an answer, instead of supporting it.

To change a card’s type later, open the card, tap it to edit, and pick a type. Once you choose a type, Threads won’t change it.

Seeing connections

Tap any card to open its page. There you’ll find:

  • Related: cards that are about similar things, found automatically and labelled Close match, Related, or Loosely related.
  • Answers and evidence: on a question, tap Answer this. On an answer, tap Add evidence and choose whether it supports the answer or counts against it.
  • Link existing: connect cards you’ve already written. Threads suggests the most likely ones first.

Linking is always optional. Use it when you want to record that one card answers or backs up another.

To edit or delete a card, open it and tap the card at the top of its page.

Search & open questions

  • Search finds cards by meaning, not just exact words. Searching tired in the afternoon can find a card about a 3pm energy crash. The best matches show first; looser ones are tucked under Show loosely related. If nothing fits, you can save your search as a new question.
  • Open questions lists questions that don’t have an answer yet, and how many of your cards might help answer each one.

Shortcut: in the box where you write cards, start with / to search, for example / tired in the afternoon. Type /open for open questions. Searches are never saved as cards.

Threads (optional groups)

A thread is a named group of cards, like a folder, except a card can be in several at once. You never have to use them. To add a card to a thread, use + Add to thread when writing it, or open the card later and edit it.

Your most recent threads appear at the top of the board. All threads lists every one. Tap a thread’s name on its page to rename it.

Needs attention

When Threads has a suggestion (a thread a card might belong in, or a card it couldn’t read), a Needs attention button appears at the top. Accept what’s useful and dismiss the rest. Nothing there is required.

Your privacy

  • Your cards are private to your account. Other users can’t see them.
  • Card text is stored encrypted. The app decrypts it to show it to you and to analyze it.
  • To understand your cards (their type and what they relate to), Threads sends card text to two AI services: Anthropic (Claude) and Voyage AI. They process it to return results. Please don’t store anything you wouldn’t want processed this way, such as passwords or other people’s private information.
  • As a test version, please don’t rely on Threads as the only copy of anything important.
